Unveiling a New Hope – PHAROS at PLOCAN HQ 1024 768 PHAROS Project

Our consortium had a very productive working groups at the PLOCAN HQ, where we discussed important responsibilities and obligations for an excellent start of the Project.

Our Consortium

The PHAROS Project currently consists of 23 Partners, that have their HQs all across the European Union. We came together on this project, funded by the European Union, in order to deal with a huge problem – ocean pollution. This problem, increasing every day in importance, and created by our civilisations, creates huge issues for our marine ecosystem and the balance of marine life.

In the digital age, everyone has the opportunity to educate themselves on best practices for keeping our oceans from pollution, which directly impacts us and all of the future generations to come.

The Approach

At PHAROS, we are not just looking to raise awareness—we aim to implement real-world solutions. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, innovative Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), and community-driven initiatives like Living Labs, we plan to deal with ocean pollution at its source. Through our combined efforts, we will work to reduce marine litter, restore damaged ecosystems, and empower local communities to become the custodians of their coastal environments.

Collaborative Action

The strength of the PHAROS project lies in its collaborative approach. With partners from diverse sectors including academia, industry, NGOs, and local governments, we ensure that every angle of ocean conservation is addressed. Our focus is on developing scalable solutions that can be replicated across European waters, with a particular emphasis on the Atlantic and Arctic basins.

By uniting expertise in marine science, engineering, policy, and environmental education, we are laying the foundation for long-lasting change. The engagement of stakeholders at every level—from fishers and coastal communities to policymakers and international organisations—will be key to ensuring the success and sustainability of the project.

Next Steps

Following our productive working groups at PLOCAN HQ, the consortium is prepared for the first phase of the project, which will include pilot demonstrations across key sites. These demonstrations will not only test the effectiveness of Nature-Based Solutions but also provide a blueprint for wider adoption across the EU. As we move forward, we will continue to focus on capacity building, technology transfer, and fostering cross-border cooperation to meet our ambitious 2030 objectives.
