PLOCAN attends Seagriculture EU 2025, Presents PHAROS 640 480 PHAROS Project

PLOCAN had the opportunity to present the PHAROS Project, specifically the Gran Canaria demonstration hosted at the PLOCAN offshore test site at Seagriculture 2025 from 17-19 June 2025. The event brought together leaders, researchers and industry partners from across the seaweed and marine-bioeconomy sectors.

At the conference we highlighted our comprehensive oceanographic characterisation work for the PLOCAN test site which includes multi-year measurements of key parameters such as temperature, salinity, nutrients, chlorophyll-a and ocean currents. These baseline data are critical to supporting both the Delta and PHAROS efforts: informing site-selection, seeding strategies and the overall design of macroalgae farms in offshore contexts.

Being able to showcase this long-term monitoring work underscores PLOCAN’s role as a reference platform for marine innovation and positions it as a strategic asset for Europe’s emerging offshore aquaculture technologies. The PHAROS Project, led by PLOCAN and supported by the EU’s Ocean Mission initiative, is focused on nature-based solutions for ecosystem restoration and sustainable marine economies.

We will continue leveraging these insights to advance scalable, environmentally informed offshore macroalgae cultivation systems, and look forward to building on the momentum from Seagriculture EU as we progress towards deployment and upscaling phases.
